While charter schools are public schools, they operate within a unique and evolving landscape with distinct legal, funding, and oversight requirements. Understanding how charter schools are formed, governed, funded, and held accountable—and the respective roles of authorizers and charter operators—is essential for ensuring compliance and supporting high-quality educational programs.

This course will provide an overview of key charter school laws and regulations, including accountability, funding, and oversight responsibilities. Participants will also gain insights into the petition process and accompanying compliance requirements, as well as statutory oversight and accountability changes proposed as part of the 2026-27 State Budget.
