This course focuses on best practices for organizing the human resources (HR) office and managing HR functions in local educational agencies (LEAs) of all sizes and will explore effective organizational structures, core HR management functions, and the implementation of practices that maintain legal compliance. Participants will learn about employee classifications, effective recruitment and hiring practices, mandated training and communication, communication structures, and the application of effective procedures. Additionally, the purpose and role of the HR department will be an overarching theme throughout the training.

The evolving LEA workforce environment requires regular review of HR department practices to ensure practices meet the needs of instructional programs and operations. This may require a redesign of staffing resources and revised approaches to how the department supports staff. Foundational HR practices are a core prerequisite in ensuring that the HR function has the capacity to respond to current HR trends and prepare for future needs.
